HostGator

Why HostGator sucks nowadays?

Before writing this article, my feeling is real complex, because we have been promoting and recommending HostGator on our review website for many years. We’ve never thought, nor never believed HostGator can become such suck nowadays.

Why HostGator is named as an ass hole company? Listen, our website had been hosted by HostGator for nearly 3 years, if HostGator was still that good as previous, we were impossible to move our website to other web hosts. Only within 2 months, HostGator had happened twice big downtime, and each time our website had been down for over 24 hours, which was real unacceptable. Please aware our website was using their advanced VPS hosting service and the price was over $100 a month. Now our website is hosted on a shared web server under $5.00 a month, everything seems to be working much better than the VPS hosting service of HostGator. We’re feeling lucky to move all of our websites out of HostGator right now.

The reason for our leaving is not only related to its server uptime, but also for its poor customer service and high-risk server security. When the downtime issue occurred, we had tried to contact their online support team numerous times. However, none of them was available, e.g., the live chat service door was closed and no one to pick up our phone call, so we could do nothing but waiting. Another, the ticket support is also ridiculous, we always have to wait as long as 48 hours even longer to get a response from their technicians, and in most cases, the response was total useless.

And the HostGator server security is also a joke. Why? As you see, all of our websites hosted by HostGator had been attacked by Viagra virus and when we contacted their technicians to find a solution, no one could give us a positive response about where the virus was coming from. We believe we were not the only one victim of this Viagra attack, but also should have many other users were attacked due to the vulnerabilities of system security. Once your websites attacked by hackers or viruses, please don’t expect too much from their technicians, because those idiots know nothing about the hacking issues or system security, everyday in their thoughts are just caring about how to exploit money from your pockets.

HostGator was sold to EIG in the mid of 2012 (EIG Brands):

We admit HostGator was a very good web host before sold to EIG company, or it was impossible to grow so fast in the past years. No one wants to see HostGator being sold out, but this is just the game rule, we can do nothing but moving our websites to another reliable web hosts.

I remember the total domain names and websites hosted by HostGator were already nearly 9 million 2 years ago, now the total amount is still the same (maybe fewer), showing that their growing speed has already been stagnated since acquisition.

Editors’ Rating about HostGator:

HostGator had been awarded as a 5-star web hosting provider by our editors previously, now we’re only able to give them 2 rating stars, because we do have found their complaints are being increased vastly recently.

How to cancel your accounts with HostGator?

If you have determined to cancel your HostGator account, then congratulation, you’ve made a bright choice like us. To cancel your HostGator account, you need to login their cancellation page with your billing account information to proceed. With our real experience, the cancellation is not that easy, because we always login failed with our billing account information and we’ve to contact their billing department numerous times to resolve the login issue. It looks like those guys don’t want their users to cancel hosting accounts too smoothly.

Once you’ve submitted the cancellation request, normally you’ve to wait at least 48 hours to get a response from their billing department. If they don’t want to see you moving, then you probably have to wait as long as 7 days to complete the cancellation.

Which web host is better than HostGator?

Currently, our website is hosted by Arvixe web solutions and as for our real experience, Arvixe is a real trusted web host which is worth for us to promote and recommend to other webmasters.

Besides of Arvixe web solutions, A2Hosting and WebHostingHub are also worth for us to recommend to you. If you’re unfamiliar with these 3 world-famous web hosts, let’s bring you a brief introduction first.

Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Los Angeles, United States, Arvixe (www.Arvixe.com) has established itself as a leading web hosting service provider for both Windows and Linux-based web platforms. Honestly speaking, you’re hard to find a web host that can be as good as Arvixe web service, since the company does understand what customer needs and always provides the newest software and technologies to its clients. And their CEO “Arvand Sabetian”, a wizard with computers and a talented team manager, who has established himself as a role model by offering services to all existing customers or potential customers personally.

A2Hosting is the other most reliable Linux-based web hosting provider that is worthy of your trust. When you visit its homepage, you’ll find the company always says itself as “300% fastest SSD Hosting Provider”. What’s SSD? SSD refers to Solid State Drive, is using the most advanced and latest data storage technologies and integrated with circuit assemblies as memory to store data continuously. The cost of SSD is always much higher than HDD hard disk, so not all web hosts are offering SSD hosting services to customers. However, A2Hosting is the one that has been equipped with SSD hard disk on all of its web servers.

As a sister company of InMotion hosting, WebHostingHub has built itself as a separated world-famous brand of web hosting service in the industry. Unlike many other companies always provide many levels of web hosting services, WebHostingHub insists on offering a single all-in-one shared hosting package to customers. We’ve built a rock solid partner with WebHostingHub and you can use the promotional link we provide to get upto 40% discount for the first hosting account.

Conclusion:

After reading this unbiased review article about HostGator, we believe you should have found why their web hosting service is being decreased a lot in recent 2 years. If you’re planning to open a new hosting account with HostGator, we suggest that you’d better reconsider, since we did have a very bad experience with the company.

In the end, if you’re having any complaints about HostGator, welcome to leave a comment to share your opinion with other web developers.

About HostGator: HostGator was founded by Brent Oxley in 2002 when he still read in the college. And in the mid of 2012, HostGator was sold to EIG for $225 million USD. Brent Oxley has left HostGator and now he is probably on traveling with many sexy girls.
